This month we’re welcoming iconic Welsh entertainer Max Boyce to the Oil 4 Wales family!
Despite his busy schedule Max, who has been a customer of Oil 4 Wales for a number of years, will be joining us as an ambassador.
We caught up with him to ask him all the questions we need the answers to as he prepares for a highly anticipated tour in 2018!
What is your proudest achievement?
I’m most proud of receiving an MBE from Prince Charles in 1999.
Have you started your Christmas shopping?
No, I can’t pay for my presents until Colin Owens pays me what he owes me!
What’s your favourite part of Christmas?
I love the tradition of Christmas, I used to be away a lot in pantomimes so it’s lovely being able to celebrate with my wife, daughters and granddaughters.
What’s your favourite movie?
The Green Mile or The Shawshank Redemption
What is your go-to comfort food?
I love cooking, my favourite dish would be Moroccan lamb tagine with Welsh lamb, or Thai green chicken curry.
What band/musician are you into at the moment?
I love folk music.
What other entertainers do you socialise with most and what do you tend to get up to?
Jasper Carrot is someone I get on with well, always used to speak to him at Christmas. Ian Botham is another person I get on with, we ring each other on Christmas morning and we have done for the past 30 or 40 years.
I’m a Celebrity is back on TV, do you think you could ever go into the jungle or do reality TV?
No, they’ve asked me three times and I’ve said no every time. Big Brother has also asked me and I’ve said no.
What are you currently binge watching on Netflix/TV?
I’ve watched Breaking Bad on Netflix, which is brilliant, and Peaky Blinders too.
What’s your favourite tipple?
I love white wine and a pint up the rugby club!
What was the last book you read?
A Boy Made of Blocks by Keith Stuart, I would recommend reading it. And Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks is very good, along with A Thousand Splendid Suns.
Who is your sporting hero?
Dai Morris, who played for Wales in the 1970s.
If you weren’t an entertainer, what would you be doing?
I’d like to have been a professional sportsman, maybe cricket or rugby player, and an oil distributor.
If you could invite any three people round to dinner (dead or alive) who would they be?
Nelson Mandela, Robert Burns, and Laurie Lee, who wrote Cider with Rosie.
Apart from rugby, what other sports do you enjoy?
Golf and cricket.
Do you have any hidden talents?
I play the Bluegrass banjo, I’m almost good enough to play on stage. I’ve worked really hard to learn to play the Ballad of Jed Clampett from the Beverly Hillbillies, and I have achieved my ambition, so I’m really pleased with that. I also love cooking.
Why is it great to be an ambassador for Oil 4 Wales?
Colin has been so kind to Glynneath RFC, where I am president, for many many years, so it’s nice to be able to pay him back. The company is fantastic to deal with and I have enjoyed dealing with them as a customer for many years.
What services do Oil 4 Wales provide you with?
I have an Apollo Infinity Automatic heating oil top-up service, which is particularly handy this time of year for keeping an eye on my oil levels.
What are you most looking forward to in 2018?
I’m looking forward to touring next year. I haven’t been on the road for a year and I love performing more than anything else. Playing to a live audience and performing to a sell out crowd is such a great thrill.
Where will you be performing?
I’ll be appearing all over the place, including Llanelli, Carmarthen, Ebbw Vale, Aberystwyth, Tewkesbury, and to sell out concerts in Cardiff’s Wales Millennium Centre and everywhere in between.
